The Padma Bridge

The Padma Bridge is one of the dream projects Bangladesh. It is a multipurpose ( বহুমুখী ) road and rail bridge over the Padma River. The length ( দৈর্ঘ্য ) of the Padma Bridge is 6.15 kilometres and its width is 18.18 metres. It has 41 spans which have already been installed ( স্থাপন করা ). It will connect ( সংযুক্ত করা ) Louhajong, Munshiganj to Shariatpur and Madaripur, linking the south-west of the country to the northern and eastern regions. The bridge is considered to be the most challenging construction ( নির্মাণ ) project in the history of Bangladesh. China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Company Limited was given the task to construct the bridge, but everything was under the direct supervision ( তত্ত্বাবধান ) of Bangladesh Army. Construction work started on 7 December 2014 with the expectation of completing by June 2022. The whole project cost is estimated ( আনুমানিক ব্যয় নিরূপণ করা ) to be US$ 3.868 billion (including VAT and IT). It was a very challenging task for the government because the World Bank cancelled its credit agreement. Other donors ( দাতা গণ ) also followed the World Bank. Yet our courageous Prime Minister did not lose heart. The government had come up with its own funding. The bridge will connect the south-west part of the country with the capital and the eastern part. As a result, regional ( আঞ্চলিক ) cooperation and communication will be improved. The Padma Bridge will bring a radical ( অমূল্য ) change in industrial development. Medical and educational facilities will be easier to access. The Padma Bridge is estimated to increase the GDP of the country by more than 1 per cent. It will benefit Sap Jabout 3 crore people across 21 south-western districts of Bangladesh. Thus, it will play an important role in the economy of our country. The bridge will also enhance ( বৃদ্ধি করা  ) the prestige and dignity ( মর্যাদা ) of the country.

Digital Bangladesh

'Digital Bangladesh' is at present a buzzword to the people of all classes. It means digitalizing Bangladesh by ensuring an ICT-based society where information will be available online and where all possible tasks of the government and other non-government or semi government organizations will be performed using digital technology. We can achieve the motto of digital Bangladesh by establishing technology-based digital governance, e-commerce, e-agriculture, e-production, education, etc., that is, by introducingtechnology in every sector of the country. Government, being the executive machinery of the country, can play a vital role in this respect. First of all, uninterrupted power supply has to be ensured. Secondly, government has to develop computer network infrastructures throughout the country. Government also has to train our people to acquire ICT skill and ensure equitable access to digital governance services for all strata of the society. Our students, the main forces of the country, should be made involved in the spread of this motto. For this, our education should be computer-based . Students studying at primary and secondary levels, should be involved in the programme by enabling them to get access to computer education. If it is possible to do, our students will be able to utilize their talent in this sector. This type of initiative is not at all too ambitious. Rather, it is a must for our country to go ahead. Because the introduction of this system will invariably  reduce our corruption in every sector. It will improve banking and financial activities, which are at present our main objective.

Pahela Boishakh

Pahela Boishakh is the first day of Bangla year. In fact, it is the day of welcoming the Bangla New Year. It is part and parcel of Bengali culture and tradition. So, the day is observed with traditional festivity across the country. People in villages celebrate this day as per their age long customs. Special meals are arranged at home and Boishakhi Melas are held in different places. It is a day of great pleasure to the village people and children. City dwellers also celebrate this day with delight. Girls and women put on yellow saris and boys put on pajama -panjabi. Some people eat watered-rice with onion, green chilli and hilsha fish. Shopkeepers in both towns and villages open new accounts books and offer sweets to their customers and this is the most impressive part of the celebration. Different cultural organizations offer different programmes. The celebration of Pahela Boishakh bears a great importance for us. It is passed by holding and enjoying festive programmes and functions. People living in Dhaka attend the Gano Sangeeter Ashor at Ramna Batamul in the morning. We reap great benefits from this kind of festival. It makes us stick to our traditional native culture. At the same time, it strengthens national unity making us forget the differences of religion, colour, race, etc. On this day, we get inspired to forget all the sorrows and failures of the past year and to start a new life with new vigour and inspiration.

Birth Centenary of Bangabandhu

The uncompromising and undaunted legendary leader, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation, was born on March 17, 1920 in a small village Tungipara, Gopalganj. 'Mujib Borsho' means the 100th birth anniversary of this undisputed world leader and this is being observed from March 17, 2020 till 31 March 2022, a time when the country will also celebrate the golden jubilee of its independence. 'Mujib Borsho' has now become a buzzword to every Bangladeshi. Our government had a plan to celebrate the opening ceremony of 'Countdown' in a very gorgeous way where all world leaders would be invited. A lot of programmes were chalked out to celebrate the Countdown' ceremony, but the pandemic 'COVID- 19' has disrupted all the decisions of our government. Hence the govt. had to decide to change the entire programme since the gathering of people was under restriction. The countdown of'Mujib Borsho' started on January 10, 2020 in a shortcut. There was also a plan to publish a lot of books on Mujib's life and works; his untiring struggle and hardest suffering for the independence of our nation, but this part had to be abandoned due to COVID-19. Different essay and art competitions, cultural and musical shows to be attended by the viewers of all types and followed by prize distribution ceremonies were also supposed to be held. But again the ČOVID-19 did not et them come true. The entire nation is still optimistic that the rest of the programmes will be held with due honour and solemnity. A good number of documentaries have been made to give the viewers a clear conception about the contribution of the Father of our Nation. 'Mujib Borsho' will again be celebrated jointly by UN General Assembly and Bangladesh on March 26, 2021 with a view to promoting people's awareness about Sheikh Mujib. This will enable our future generation to know more about Bangabandhu and Bangladesh. With the observance of Mujib's 100th birth anniversary, the government has pledged itself to root out corruption and injustice from the soil of Bangladesh so that people may live in peace and happiness in 'Sonar Bangla' as dreamt of by the Father of our Nation.

Drug Addiction

Taking an excess of drug for no physical disease to get rid of frustration is called drug addiction. Addiction to drug has, nowadays, become one of the greatest problems of the world. This curse has spread in our country also. Young people who keep bad company are largely addicted. There are mainly two reasons behind it. First, young people are more curious. So, whatever they see harmful or useful, they are the first to taste. Again, frustration is another cause of taking drugs. When there is no hope left for the young, they become addicted to drugs. Unemployment, political anarchy, lack of family ties, lack of love and affection, etc. give rise to frustration. The after effects of drug addiction are terrible. It gives rise to various social problems. Drugs are very expensive. When the drug addicts are unable to afford to buy drugs, they commit social crimes like hijacking, stealing, robbery, etc. Drugs tell upon the human body terribly. They kill slowly but surely. Drug addicts feel drowsy, lose their appetite and remain in sleep. Their brains are damaged to meet death. To save our young generation from the claw of drug addiction, production and trafficking of drugs should be controlled. Social awareness should be raised regarding the adverse effects of drug addiction.
